Success Stories
The Problem: High Turnover
A major financial institution was experiencing high turnover in its SQA staff, slowing their ability to get new products out to customers. The root cause of the turnover was that a high percentage of the work was manual testing and did not provide enough room for growth.
Softworld’s Solution:
Softworld developed a recruiting strategy to attract people who could ramp up quickly but would remain challenged in this role for a minimum of 12 months. We developed an ongoing recruiting campaign targeting financial and business analysts who enjoy working within an IT setting but who do not aspire to become software developers.
The Result:
Retention for our consultants in this team averages 12-15 months for most placements, enabling management to focus on meeting deliverables rather than quarterly hiring of new resources.
The Problem: Failing Project
A major high tech manufacturer needed to bring a major software development project to a successful conclusion. Without any written system requirements the project had spent over $125M in over six years of development and had changed direction multiple times.
Softworld’s Solution:
Identify a PMP certified project manager to lead the integration effort. The key strategy chosen was to discover project dependencies and timelines, and to then redefine system changes into new, smaller, more manageable modification projects. Once this was accomplished, an application functionality matrix, a testing strategy, and a hardware configuration would be developed.
The Result:
The Softworld project manager and his team brought the core code development to a successful conclusion within 7 months.
The Problem: Hiring Freeze
A leading regional retail chain was planning to introduce new technology in a short time frame while being restricted by a corporate office level hiring freeze.
Softworld’s Solution:
Use contract consultants with the option to hire permanently, thereby preserving the ability to retain knowledge in-house and reduce dependence on outside consultants once internal headcount opened up.
The Result:
The client was able to complete several critical projects on-time and under budget. Some consultants were rotated among several groups to promote knowledge transfer. Within a 12 month period, several were offered and have accepted permanent employment.
The Problem: No Time to Interview
A telecommunications company needed to hire analysts with specialized Telco knowledge. The hiring managers wanted to interview a reasonable number of candidates but were challenged by an overwhelming work load and an excess of potentially qualified candidates.
Softworld’s Solution:
Save the customer’s time by narrowing the field of potential candidates to the most qualified. The Softworld account manager worked with the hiring team to develop a set of 10 interview questions. The Softworld account manager performed the first interview and verified references before recommending two candidates for final interview.
The Result:
Softworld was able to staff an entire department for the customer. Over 80% of all candidates presented were hired onto the team on a contract basis, and more than half of those received and accepted offers for permanent hire.
The Problem: Limited Budget
A growing on-line merchant needed to develop their e-commerce platform by incorporating a particular web technology but didn't have enough money in the budget to go directly to the software company that developed the technology.
Softworld’s Solution:
Use Softworld's recruiting staff to locate vendor certified consultants that had the exact knowledge and level of experience to perform the task at hand at a substantial savings compared to the OEM vendor.
The Result:
Softworld not only found the people with the proper background but also formed the team that was able to complete the project on time and under budget.
The Problem: Part Time On Going Need
The world headquarters for a specialty bakery chain occasionally needs technical guidance on development and maintenance projects beyond the technical scope of their regular DBA team. They needed a senior-level Oracle database administrator on a part-time on-going basis and couldn't justify hiring someone full-time or contract 40 hours per week to ensure continuity.
Softworld’s Solution:
Offer the position to a senior DBA who has been on Softworld’s staff for several years and who can be relied upon for accessibility.
The Result:
The client now has a resource with the flexibility to work on an as-needed and on-call basis. Small and mid-sized projects are scheduled in advance and handled by the same consultant. Our consultant’s direct knowledge and experience with the existing systems ensures that projects are completed in a timely and cost effective manner.
